Welcome to a new series on Orlagh Claire where I review hotel stays around the world. As you most likely know, I have been travelling quite a lot recently which you can see over on my YouTube channel.
Starting off this series is The Sheraton Hotel in TriBeCa, New York City where we spent five nights at the beginning of 2023 when we visited New York for New Year’s Eve.
Location
Arriving late afternoon on a Friday, we checked into The Sheraton Hotel in Tribeca, Manhattan.
If you’re not familiar with the layout of Manhattan, TriBeCa is situated above FiDi and just below Soho.
This was the perfect location for us as it was to the left of the East Village and Chinatown, just below the West Village and on the doorstep of Soho. And since we’re big fans of walking everywhere, this made everything within a close distance to us in every direction.

The hotel was situated on Canal Street which is a pretty main road of Manhattan going left to right across the island. There was a Dunkin Donuts across the street from the hotel which was perfect for my boyfriend to grab coffee from every morning while I slowly wakened for the day, and a bodega right next store in case you needed anything like drinks or snacks.
The hotel also faced onto the lower end of Soho which is probably one of my favourite areas of Manhattan, if not my favourite. Soho is often a quiet area of New York with wide streets, upmarket stores and the most beautiful architecture.
When the sun was shining in the mornings, there was nowhere more perfect to start the day than with a stroll through Soho with a Dunkin Donuts in hand.
The room (and the view)
Not only was the location of the hotel perfect, but we couldn’t have asked for a better hotel room. Located on the 20th floor, we were near the very top of the building.
I didn’t have high hopes for the view from the room as Manhattan is an incredibly built up area with skyscrapers left, right and centre. So it was quite likely that our hotel room was going to face the side of a neighbouring skyscraper.
But how wrong I was. If you look at the Manhattan skyline from Brooklyn or Hoboken, New Jersey, you notice that the bottom end of Manhattan (FiDi) is incredibly built up. You have the World Trade Centre buildings, Wall Street and all of the financial buildings in this area. Then you’ll cast your eye towards the middle of Manhattan where you have the Empire State Building, Rockefeller Centre, The Chrysler Building etc and all of the skyscrapers of midtown.
However, you will notice that between FiDi and Midtown, you have this gap in the air of lower buildings. And it seems that the Sheraton in TriBeCa is the last tall building before you get to Midtown, which meant from our hotel room window we had the entire view of Midtown Manhattan as clear as day.
I cannot explain how amazing the view was. With nothing in the way, we could see the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building, the Hudson Yards area with The Edge, all of it.
We arrived into our hotel room with the curtain drawn and we both let out a loud ‘OH MY GOD’ once I pulled back the curtain to reveal the view.

The room itself was great for what we needed. It wasn’t overly large but had all the amenities we needed with a large kingsize bed. The bathroom had a walk-in double shower and huge sink area for my large toiletry collection.
Our stay
We had a wonderful stay at the Sheraton and the staff were always so lovely and pleasant each time we needed their help with anything.
It was a very busy hotel, with guests arriving and departing at all times of the day. Even though we stayed around New Year’s Eve, we had no noise complaints and slept wonderfully every night.
We were also able to leave our luggage on our final day as our flight wasn’t departing until 11pm and we could wander the city for a few hours without lugging our suitcases around.
Overall review
I’ve stayed in a few hotels in New York now, but I have to say The Sheraton is up there with my favourites. We loved it so much that we’ve booked in again to stay when we return to New York in the summer.
I think that in itself tells you just how great our stay was.
