The Best Dolly Alderton Books Ranked in Order
Having read Dolly Alderton’s books myself, I’ve rounded up the best Dolly Alderton books to add to your reading list.
Whether you’re discovering her work for the first time or already a fan looking for your next read, here’s where to start.

1. Good Material by Dolly Alderton
In Dolly Alderton’s novel, Andy, a 35-year-old comedian, is reeling from a breakup while struggling with his career and friendships. Living in his friends’ spare room, he reflects on his failed relationship and starts to understand his ex’s perspective.
Warm, funny, and relatable, the novel explores love, friendship, and the challenges of growing up.
My Rating: ★★★★★
I’ve read Dolly Alderton’s two other novels and didn’t love her most recent work, Ghosts. However, this was a five out of five, and I couldn’t put it down.
A break-up told from the guy’s perspective, and made me laugh out loud so many times. I can see this being made into a TV series soon.

2. Everything I Know About Love by Dolly Alderton
When it comes to the trials and triumphs of becoming an adult, writer Dolly Alderton has seen and tried it all. In her memoir, she vividly recounts falling in love, finding a job, getting drunk, getting dumped, and that absolutely no one can ever compare to her best girlfriends.
Everything I Know About Love is about bad dates, good friends and―above all else― realizing that you are enough.
My Rating: ★★★★
I loved Everything I Know About Love. It’s a memoir of Dolly Alderton’s life until she turns 30. It covers growing up, boys, men, relationships, friendships, getting older, employment, living in London, heartbreak and death.
The book reminded me of how much I liked that kind of genre – fiction and biography-style. It’s a great book, and one I would highly recommend.

3. Ghosts by Dolly Alderton
32-year-old Nina Dean is a successful food writer with a loyal online following, but a life that is falling apart. When she uses dating apps for the first time, she becomes a victim of ghosting, and by the most beguiling of men.
Her beloved dad is vanishing in slow motion into dementia, and she’s starting to think about ageing and the gendered double-standard of the biological clock.
My Rating: ★★
I loved Dolly Alderton’s debut novel, Everything I Know About Love and expected more great things from this second novel, Ghosts. I had heard great things and seen many great reviews.
However, I just didn’t get the hype whatsoever. I felt that the book was a little all over the place with so many random storylines and plots. The part with her downstairs neighbour in the last 30 pages – where did that come from?? What happened to Max? What was the ending with her dad? I have so many unanswered questions.
The Best Books by Dolly Alderton: My Recommendations
Dolly Alderton has a knack for writing about the complicated parts of being human in a way that feels both incredibly honest and wonderfully readable.
Whether she’s exploring friendship, love, dating or the realities of growing older, her books are full of characters and experiences that are easy to recognise yourself in.
If you’re new to her writing, I hope this guide to the best Dolly Alderton books has helped you decide which one to pick up first.
And if you’ve already read them all, there’s always the fun of revisiting an old favourite.
