Welcome to the Checking In series on Orlagh Claire where I review hotel stays around the world. As you most likely know, I have been travelling quite a lot recently which you can see over on my YouTube channel.
Next in this series is Scandic Torget, Bergen, Norway where I recently spent the early May bank holiday weekend.
Location of Scandic Torget
Scandic Torget couldn’t have been more ideally located in Bergen city centre. A five minute walk from Byparken tram stop where we got dropped directly from the airport late at night, and being directly situated on the Bergen waterfront, you were right amongst the centre of the city as soon as you stepped out of the hotel.
Stepping out of the hotel on our first morning, we were actually met with the Bergen City marathon. Facing the hotel is the famous Bergen fish market and tourist information centre where we booked our fjord trip for our second day.
Located on the waterfront, you have a great view of Bryggen Hansa Quarter, the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the coloured wooden shops that make Bergen such an iconic tourist destination.
It’s also incredible to walk out of the hotel and see the surrounding hills and mountains with houses and buildings set in the mountain tops looking directly down on the city. A truly picturesque city.
The Room
The room was exactly what we needed for our short stay in Bergen. We had a double room located on the fourth floor of the hotel, looking out onto the right side of the building facing the China Palace restaurant and main square.
The hotel room was very modern with Scandic furnishings and had all the amenities and add-ons that we needed (except for any tea/coffee/kettle).
We even received some Norweigan chocolates on arrival in our room which was a lovely added touch from the hotel staff.
Our Stay
We had a perfect stay at Scandic Torget during our visit to Bergen, with no complaints whatsoever.
We didn’t have any breakfast/food at the hotel during our stay but did notice there was a 24 hour fridge in the lobby with drinks/pastries and sandwiches which was great to have as our fjord trip started really early on the Sunday and we would be leaving before breakfast started.
The hotel staff were more than helpful during our stay as we asked for recommendations on the fjord trips, where to eat and things to see and do during our time in Bergen.
Also quite handily, there was an umbrella rental station in the hotel. We had brought our own, but as it rains 239 days of the year in Bergen, an umbrella would definitely come in handy!
Overall Review of Scandic Torget
Overall, I would total recommend Scandic Torget as a place to stay during your visit to Bergen.
Perfectly located with modern and warm rooms, it was the loveliest welcome back after a cold/rainy day out exploring Bergen and the fjords.
