Popular Books on TikTok That Are Actually Worth the Hype

This blog post is all about popular books on TikTok that are actually worth the hype that they’ve received and that I’d recommend reading.

Sometimes books on TikTok can be overhyped and not worth the time or money. But what I’ve noticed recently, is that sometimes TikTok can get it very right, especially the BookTok side of TikTok.

I’m a sucker for a hyped book on TikTok, and most of the time you’ll find me in a This Works store buying new books simply because I’ve seen them on TikTok, or because Sara Carrolli has read it.

I’ve been very pleasantly surprised in recent months with the books that I’ve purchased due to TikTok, and thought I would put together a list of popular books on TikTok that are actually worth your money.

10 Popular Books on TikTok I Bought and Actually Enjoyed

If you’ve spent any amount of time on BookTok, you’ll know just how quickly a book can go from hidden gem to everyone is talking about it.

From romance and fantasy to thrillers and emotional page-turners, TikTok has become one of my favourite places to discover what books people are loving right now.

But with so many viral titles making their way onto your TBR, it can be hard to know which ones are actually worth picking up.

I’ve read my fair share of popular books on TikTok, and these are the ones I’ve genuinely enjoyed and would recommend adding to your reading list.

Knockemout Things We Never Got Over by Lucy Score

1. Things We Never Got Over by Lucy Score

Naomi wasn’t just running away from her wedding. She was riding to the rescue of her estranged twin to Knockemout, Virginia, a rough-around-the-edges town where disputes are settled the old-fashioned way…with fists and beer. Usually in that order.

Too bad for Naomi her evil twin hasn’t changed at all. After helping herself to Naomi’s car and cash, Tina leaves her with something unexpected. The niece Naomi didn’t know she had. Now she’s stuck in town with no car, no job, no plan, and no home with an 11-year-old going on thirty to take care of.

Magnolia Parks by Jessa Hastings

2. Magnolia Parks by Jessa Hastings

She is a beautiful, affluent, self-involved and mildly neurotic London socialite. He is Britain’s most photographed bad-boy lothario who broke her heart. But Magnolia Parks and BJ Ballentine are meant to be, and everyone knows it.

They’re in the stars… just suspended in a strange kind of love that looks like hurting each other a lot of the time: She dates other people to keep him at bay; he sleeps with other girls to get back at her for it. But at the end of their every sad endeavour to get over one another, it’s still each other they crawl back to.

The Housemaid by Freida McFadden Review

3. The Housemaid by Freida McFadden

Every day I clean the Winchesters’ beautiful house top to bottom. I collect their daughter from school. And I cook a delicious meal for the whole family before heading up to eat alone in my tiny room on the top floor.

I try to ignore how Nina makes a mess just to watch me clean it up. How she tells strange lies about her own daughter. And how her husband Andrew seems more broken every day. But as I look into Andrew’s handsome brown eyes, so full of pain, it’s hard not to imagine what it would be like to live Nina’s life. The walk-in closet, the fancy car, the perfect husband.

I only try on one of Nina’s pristine white dresses once. Just to see what it’s like. But she soon finds out… and by the time I realize my attic bedroom door only locks from the outside, it’s far too late.

Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus

7. Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus

Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality.

Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind.

But like science, life is unpredictable. Which is why a few years later Elizabeth Zott finds herself not only a single mother, but the reluctant star of America’s most beloved cooking show Supper at Six.

Elizabeth’s unusual approach to cooking (“combine one tablespoon acetic acid with a pinch of sodium chloride”) proves revolutionary. But as her following grows, not everyone is happy. Because as it turns out, Elizabeth Zott isn’t just teaching women to cook. She’s daring them to change the status quo.
