1 Day in Macau Itinerary
Below is how we spent our 1 day in Macau while we were visiting Hong Kong. I’d fully recommend visiting Macau as it’s a spectacle to see and there’s so much to discover.
1 Day in Macau Morning Itinerary
1. Early Morning Ferry to Macau
To make the most of your day in Macau, catch one of the first ferries from Hong Kong to Macau.
The journey takes about an hour, and there are several ferry terminals in Hong Kong, including Hong Kong Island (Sheung Wan) and Kowloon (Tsim Sha Tsui). TurboJET and Cotai Water Jet are the two main operators.
Tips: Book your tickets in advance, especially on weekends and public holidays. The first ferry usually departs around 7:00 AM, giving you plenty of time to explore Macau.

2. Arrival at Macau Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal
When you arrive, clear immigration (you’ll need your passport to visit Macau!) and take one of the free shuttle buses provided by major hotels and casinos, or grab a taxi to your first destination.
3. Explore the Historic Centre of Macau
Begin your exploration at Senado Square, the heart of Macau’s historic district. Admire the Portuguese colonial architecture and mosaic-tiled pavements as you stroll through the area.
A short walk from Senado Square, the Ruins of St. Paul’s is one of Macau’s most iconic landmarks. Climb the steps to the top for a panoramic view of the city and explore the Museum of Sacred Art and Crypt, located just behind the ruins.
On your way back to Senado Square, stop by St. Dominic’s Church, a beautiful baroque-style church that’s an important part of Macau’s cultural heritage.

4. Visit A-Ma Temple
After exploring the historic center, head to A-Ma Temple, one of the oldest temples in Macau.
Dedicated to the sea goddess Mazu, the temple is a serene place for reflection and offers a glimpse into the spiritual side of Macau.
Tips: Take your time walking through the temple’s pavilions and courtyards, each with its own unique atmosphere.
5. Macanese Lunch at A Lorcha
For lunch, enjoy authentic Macanese cuisine at A Lorcha, located near the A-Ma Temple.
The restaurant is famous for its traditional dishes like African chicken, bacalhau (salted cod), and clams in garlic sauce.
Tips: Try to make a reservation in advance or arrive early, as this popular spot can fill up quickly, especially during lunch hours.

6. Visit the Macau Tower
After lunch, make your way to Macau Tower, where you can enjoy breathtaking views of the city from the observation deck.
If you’re feeling adventurous, there’s the option to try the Skywalk or even bungee jumping. It’s the highest commercial bungee jump in the world, so definitely one to tick off your bucket list!
7. Explore the Cotai Strip
The Cotai Strip is Macau’s answer to the Las Vegas Strip, lined with luxurious hotels, casinos, and entertainment complexes.
Take a stroll through The Venetian Macao, with its indoor canals and gondola rides, or visit The Parisian Macao to see the half-scale replica of the Eiffel Tower. It’s mind-blowing.
Tip: Even if you’re not interested in gambling, the casinos offer plenty of free entertainment, such as the gondola rides at The Venetian or the Eiffel Tower light show at The Parisian.
8. Shop at The Promenade Shops
If you’re in the mood for some shopping, head to The Promenade Shops at Galaxy Macau.
This luxury shopping mall features a wide range of international brands, from high-end fashion to beauty products.

9. Relax at Lou Lim Ieoc Garden
Before heading back to Hong Kong, take some time to unwind at Lou Lim Ieoc Garden, a beautiful Chinese garden in the heart of Macau.
The garden’s peaceful atmosphere, with its koi ponds, traditional pavilions, and winding pathways is the perfect place to relax after a day of sightseeing.
10. Enjoy a Snack at Lord Stow’s Bakery
No trip to Macau is complete without tasting the famous Portuguese egg tarts from Lord Stow’s Bakery.
Stop by the bakery’s location in Coloane Village to pick up a few tarts before you head back to the ferry terminal.
Tip: The egg tarts are best enjoyed fresh, so make sure to eat one on the spot and take some with you for the journey back. We enjoyed quite a few of these in the morning when we arrived in Macau.

11. Catch the Ferry Back to Hong Kong
After a full day of exploring Macau, it’s time to catch the ferry back to Hong Kong. Ferries run frequently, so you can choose a departure time that suits your schedule.
Tip: Arrive at the ferry terminal at least 30 minutes before departure to allow time for tickets and immigration.
