This blog post is all about visiting Dubai on a budget.

When you think of Dubai, you probably picture luxury, glamour, and everything expensive – from opulent hotels to high-end shopping malls and fine dining.
But believe it or not, you can experience Dubai on a budget without missing out on what this incredible city has to offer.
Dubai was one of the first stops on my travels, and while I knew I’d spend more money here than in places like Laos, I was determined to keep costs as low as possible while still experiencing as much as I could.
Here’s how you can enjoy Dubai on a budget and make the most of your trip without breaking the bank.
This blog post is all about travelling to Dubai on a budget.
15 Tips for Visiting Dubai On A Budget
Dubai was the first big city on our backpacking trip and we knew it would be one of the most expensive.
If you’d like to see everything that we got up to in 48 hours, check out my Dubai YouTube vlog below. You can see where we stayed, where we ate and what we did, all within a strict backpacker budget.
Dubai on a budget really is possible!
1. Travel During the Off-Season
Dubai’s peak tourist season is from November to March when the weather is cooler. If you’re looking to save money, consider travelling during the shoulder or off-season (April to October).
While the temperatures can be scorching, you’ll find cheaper flights, discounted hotel rates, and fewer crowds.
Many attractions are indoors and air-conditioned, so you can still enjoy your trip without suffering in the heat.
2. Stay Just Outside the Main Area
Accommodation in Dubai can be pricey, but staying just outside the main tourist spots can save you a lot of money.
We stayed at the Copthorne Hotel Dubai, which might be considered a bit out of the way, but it was so affordable.
We paid around £20 for a suite, and the room was massive – two rooms with plenty of space!
It was also a short walk from the metro, which made it super easy to reach all the main areas without spending a fortune on taxis.

3. Use Public Transport
Dubai has an excellent and affordable public transportation system. The Dubai Metro, buses, and trams are clean, air-conditioned, and super budget-friendly.
We used the metro to get around the city, and it was a fraction of the cost of taxis.
Grab a Nol Card, which works on all modes of public transport, and you’ll be able to explore the city without draining your wallet.
4. Take a Boat Ride on Dubai Creek
One of the most unique and budget-friendly experiences in Dubai is taking an abra (traditional wooden boat) ride across Dubai Creek.
It costs just 1 AED (about £0.20), and you get to enjoy beautiful views of the old and new parts of the city. It’s a fun way to experience Dubai’s history and charm without spending much.

5. Walk Around the Souks
The souks (markets) in Dubai are a must-visit, and wandering around them is completely free!
Explore the Gold Souk, Spice Souk, and Textile Souk to experience the vibrant atmosphere, colourful displays, and fascinating scents.
It’s a great way to get a feel for the city’s culture and maybe pick up a few souvenirs if you’re willing to haggle.
6. Eat Where the Locals Eat
You don’t have to dine in fancy restaurants to enjoy delicious food in Dubai.
Some of the best meals we had were in local eateries, and they didn’t cost a fortune. I highly recommend Al Ustad Special Kebab and Ravi Restaurant – both are known for their incredible food and authentic, local feel.
You’ll get a taste of Dubai’s rich flavours without paying tourist prices.

7. Visit the Malls (Without Spending)
Dubai is famous for its shopping malls, but you don’t have to splurge to enjoy them.
Visiting malls like The Dubai Mall or Mall of the Emirates is a great way to escape the heat, and there’s plenty to see and do without spending a dime.
Check out the indoor waterfall, the Dubai Aquarium (parts of which you can view for free from outside), or simply enjoy some people-watching.
8. Walk Along JBR (Jumeirah Beach Residence) Area
The JBR area is a popular spot for both tourists and locals, and it’s free to walk around.
Take a stroll along The Walk at JBR, enjoy the beach views, browse the market stalls, or just soak up the lively atmosphere. It’s a fantastic place to spend an evening without spending a penny.

9. Take Advantage of Free Things to See and Do
Dubai offers plenty of free attractions if you know where to look.
Watch the Dubai Fountain show outside The Dubai Mall – it’s a spectacular display of water, lights, and music, and it happens every half hour in the evening.
You can also explore Al Fahidi Historical District, visit the beautiful beaches, or wander around Dubai Marina.
10. Opt for Hotel Bars with a View Instead of Observation Decks
If you want to enjoy stunning views of the Dubai skyline, skip the pricey observation decks and head to a hotel bar with a view instead.
You’ll still get the incredible panoramic sights, but with the added bonus of enjoying a drink.
After all, if you’re going to pay for an observation deck, you might as well get a cocktail with it!
11. Book Flights in Advance
Keep an eye out for flight deals and book as early as possible.
Sign up for fare alerts on websites like Skyscanner or Google Flights to get notifications when prices drop. Flying mid-week or taking a red-eye flight can also save you money.
12. Look for Discount Cards and Apps
Dubai has several discount cards and apps that can help you save money on attractions, dining, and activities.
The Entertainer app, for example, offers 2-for-1 deals on restaurants, attractions, and more. Groupon also has regular discounts for activities, tours, and dining experiences in Dubai.

13. Explore the Desert of Dubai on a Budget
You don’t have to book an expensive desert safari to experience the beauty of the Arabian Desert.
Look for budget-friendly tour operators or consider joining a group tour to cut costs.
Many companies offer evening desert trips that include dune bashing, camel rides, and a BBQ dinner at a much more affordable price.
14. Find Budget Accommodation
If you’re looking to save even more on accommodation, consider staying in budget hotels, hostels, or Airbnb options in areas like Deira or Bur Dubai.
These neighbourhoods have plenty of affordable places to stay and are still close enough to explore the main attractions.
15. Enjoy Dubai’s Parks and Outdoor Spaces
Dubai has some beautiful parks and outdoor areas that you can enjoy for free or at a minimal cost.
Places like Safa Park, Dubai Creek Park, and JLT Park are great for a relaxing day out, and you can even have a picnic while enjoying the city’s skyline.
Visiting Dubai On A Budget
With a bit of planning and some smart choices, travelling to Dubai on a budget is definitely doable.
From exploring free attractions to finding affordable meals, there are plenty of ways to experience this incredible city of Dubai on a budget, without spending a fortune.
