In the past, it was perfectly possible to have a business and brand that didn’t stand out all that much, but because there wasn’t any (or much, at least) competition, that didn’t matter. People would still find you and, crucially, remember you to use again and again.
Those days are long gone now, and if you want to stand out and make some money, your business has to have a memorable brand.
It’s great to offer a fantastic product or service, but if no one remembers who you are, how can you rely on return business or word-of-mouth marketing, both of which are crucial to a growing business?
That’s why you need to make your brand memorable, and here are some useful tips on how to do it.
Get a Great Name
If there’s one thing you have to get right from the very start, it’s the name of your business – that name is going to make an impression on people, and you’ll want it to be a good one, and, of course, a memorable one.
It’s got to be short and catchy, easy to pronounce and spell, and it needs to be completely relevant to your business because that’s another way people are going to remember it.
Don’t forget that a great brand name also has to be unique, and you’ll want to avoid words that might just blend into the background and easily be forgotten because they’re the same as everyone else is using and have become so common.
It might sound as though coming up with a name is a hard thing to do, and that’s actually true. However, spending time and effort on this element of your brand is vital, and once you’ve cracked it, the rest becomes a lot easier.
Create a Logo
When you think about it, a logo is essentially the backbone of your marketing and branding because it’s the face of your company, and it’s what people are definitely going to remember (maybe even before they remember your name in some cases).
The best logos are minimalist ones that use simple shapes and colours and that can be recognised at a glance – from a distance! Think of the ones you know already, like Nike or McDonald’s, and you’ll see what we mean; spot them from afar and you’ll instantly know what business they represent.
Logos can’t just be a pretty picture; they also have to tell a story and represent your business accurately, so once again, it’s not something you can come up with on the fly.
In fact, it could be worth engaging a branding company to help you with this (and other aspects of your branding) to ensure the logo you end up with will be the one that helps you boost your business.
Consistency is Crucial
If you want your brand to be remembered, a great name and logo really are vital, but if you don’t use those things consistently in your marketing, they’re not going to count for much because people won’t see them.
They certainly won’t see them enough to make them stick in their minds so your business is the one they think of first.
When you post consistently on social media, when you blog on a regular basis, when you send out your newsletter on time every week or month, this all helps to keep your business and your brand in people’s minds.
If it’s easier, create a calendar to help you stick to your schedule, and the difference will be a positive one.
