Its postcode is E1 so technically we can call it East London, but it’s much closer to the City of London and the banking area than it is to the likes of Shoreditch, Hackney or West Ham (what we like to call real East London).

Bleecker Street Burger, Old Spitalfields Market

1. Bleecker Street Burger

Supposedly the best burger in London, this was something I had to find out for myself.

Now I will say, the burger was stunning… however, was it £8.50 worth of stunning? Not quite. A pretty small burger for the price and that’s without any fries, drink or anything.

Would you get more for your money at McDonald’s? Yes. But would you get the same level of taste? No.

Worth it for a treat once in a while, but you could get yourself some fries and a drink if you went to McDonald’s or Five Guys, just saying.

2. Dumpling Shack

It’s physically impossible for me to walk past a dumpling sign, especially when in a food market. If there are 20 different vendors on the list, I’m having dumplings.

I did change things up a little and instead of my usual dumplings/gyoza, I ordered wontons in a chilli oil. When ordering via the iPad, you could select ‘less chilli’ which I of course went for.

I also ordered some noodles again asking for ‘less chilli’, however I’m unsure if the chef mistook this for ‘extra chilli’ because oh my lord it was hot. If this was the milder option, I would hate to try the hotter version.

Still, both sets of food hit the spot and I would go back again tomorrow and have more of the wontons. Plus, you get more bang for your buck with the wontons than with the gyozas.

3. Humble Crumble

The famous crumble spot that has taken over London these past couple of years, they have progressed from street vendor in the market to permanent store residents.

Apple crumble and hot custard is probably my most-loved home comfort dessert. Nothing beats it in the winter, especially if it’s been homemade by a family member.

So when it was 30 degrees in London recently, I found myself tucking into the famous Humble Crumble for the first time after having it on my radar for quite some time.

As I was sharing with my boyfriend, I decided to go for the larger pot which was £1.50 extra. However, we definitely could have stuck to the standard medium size as the large portion was much larger than expected.

The great thing about Humble Crumble is that you design your own dessert. You decide your base, your crumble and your topping. You can also select the ratio of base to crumble which really suits if you’re more interested in the crumble or in the fruit at the bottom.

Safe to say Humble Crumble did not disappoint and there is definitely a reason why it is always queued out the door on a constant basis. Believe the hype!

4. Piadina Bros

I sent himself off to choose our next round of food and he came back with what looked like a strange quesadilla/crepe.

He had tried a sample from the chef when walking past and stopped in his tracks immediately and ordered the vegetarian hot sandwich. Now this was incredibly strange to me since neither of us are vegetarians, nor do we ever opt for the vegetarian option of anything.

However, this flatbread grilled sandwich had pesto, goats cheese, salad, sun-dried tomatoes, balsamic and more. It was incredibly tasty and even having half the sandwich was enough for me. If you’re wondering where to eat at Old Spitalfields Market for lunch, this is the spot.
