The Best Breakfast and Brunch Spots in Liverpool

This blog post is all about the best breakfast and brunch spots in Liverpool that I would dine at time and time again when I lived in Liverpool.

Following on from my list of best brunches in London, I thought I’d start sampling the breakfasts and brunch spots in Liverpool.

As it is my favourite meal of the day and you can’t go too far wrong with poached eggs and avocado, it was time to put Liverpool to the test.

Having lived in Liverpool for four years, I’ve sampled many breakfast and brunch spots in the city, so here are my favourites and the best brunch spots in Liverpool.

The 9 Best Breakfast and Brunch Spots in Liverpool

Below is my list of the best breakfast and brunch spots in Liverpool.

Over the years, the Liverpool brunch scene has vastly improved and I loved these brunch spots in Liverpool during my four years living there.

1. Leaf

Address: Smithdown Road, Liverpool L15 5AN

Leaf used to be the most popular spot on Bold Street in the mornings, and you were usually met with a queue of people lining down the street to get their breakfast.

But after 15 years on Bold Street, Leaf closed up shop and opened up a new location in Smithdown, just a bus ride out of the city centre.

I’ve dined at Leaf more times than I care to admit and it was actually the first place that introduced me to avocado toast all those years ago, so it holds a very special place in my heart.

I love visiting Leaf on Smithdown Road time and time again and it always feels like coming home each time I’m back in Liverpool.

2. The Brunch & Cocktail Club

Address: Duke Street, Liverpool L1 5AP

The best thing about The Brunch Club on Duke Street is that it serves breakfast and brunch until 5pm everyday, so there’s no need to rush before missing the 12pm curfew for avocado on toast.

Located on Duke Street, this spot is very popular for its bottomless brunches so be sure to book and order a tree of pornstar martinis!

3. Cafe Lucaya

Address: 22 Water Street, Liverpool L3 1BH

One of the handiest brunch spots in Liverpool for me as it’s only a ten minute walk from my apartment on the Albert Docks.

Since I now work from home, this means I can nip over to Cafe Lucaya for a mid-week brunch when I get the urge for some avocado on toast.

A lovely, quiet spot right across from Liverpool’s Liver Building, it serves a generous amount of grub for breakfast and amazing coffee too!

4. Bold Street Coffee

Address: 89 Bold Street, Liverpool L1 4HF

I have a slight addiction to Bold Street Coffee and their hashbrowns. I don’t know what it is, but they’re so good.

Bold Street Coffee used to be a regular coffee spot for me, and it took me a while to actually stop in and try their breakfast menu. But when I tried their hashbrowns for the first time, I kept coming back.

This is also a great place to work from in Liverpool, the coffee is great and so is the breakfast and brunch options.

If you’re looking for brunch spots in Liverpool in the city centre or on Bold Street specifically, try Bold Street Coffee.

5. Queens Wine Bar and Bistro

Address: Queen Avenue, Liverpool L2

Hidden away in Liverpool’s very own Diagon Alley, is Queens Wine Bar and Bistro, in Queen Avenue.

You would very easily miss this little street hidden behind Castle Street, as I have for the past four years of living in the city.

Queens Wine Bar and Bistro has a very French feel to it with dark wooden interiors and a very intimate atmosphere.

I’m just annoyed I hadn’t found this place sooner as I think it would have been a regular brunch spot for me with its tasty menu.

6. The Watering Can

Address: 64 Greenbank Road, Liverpool L18 1HQ

Out near Penny Lane in a little area known as Greenbank sits The Watering Can. A very festive and amazingly decorated little spot.

It’s a very popular place for brunch on the weekends as they’re known for their famous breakfast fry-ups and Sunday roasts.

After a large fry, take a walk around the local area of Penny Lane and through Sefton Park to take in some of the lovely green areas that Liverpool has to offer.

A perfect Sunday morning outing and one of the best brunch spots in Liverpool.

7. Moose Coffee

Address: 6 Dale Street, Liverpool L2 4TQ

Moose Coffee is a famous brunch staple in Liverpool and Manchester.

Now operating in a second location on Hope Street, Moose Coffee serves up the biggest stack of pancakes you’ll find.

It’s famous for its American and Canadian-styled breakfasts.

Moose is somewhere you’ll want to book for breakfast as there’s always a queue and a long waiting list to get in on a weekend morning.

I’ve dined at Moose Coffee on a number of occasions, even in their Manchester location, and if you’re not in the mood for pancakes, they also serve other breakfast options like avocado toast (of course) and various egg recipes.

8. Rhubarb

Address: 27 Lark Lane, Liverpool L17 8UW

Lark Lane is one of my favourite areas of Liverpool. Quite like Bold Street in the city Centre, Lark Lane is full of independent restaurants and bars that I’m hoping to make my way through while living in Liverpool.

I love heading out to Lark Lane on a Sunday morning, going for breakfast at Rhubarb and then walking it off with a walk around Sefton Park.

Lark Lane is almost a hidden gem if you’re not from Liverpool or a local, as not many people would venture outside the city centre, but I highly recommend you do as some of the best restaurants in Liverpool are on Lark Lane.

9. Cosy Club

Address: 37c Paradise Street, Liverpool L1 3EU

If you’re looking for brunch spots in Liverpool in the city centre or perhaps even in Liverpool ONE (before or after shopping), then I’d highly recommend the Cosy Club.

Sitting upstairs in the Liverpool ONE shopping district, it’s a great place for people watching and they have lots of tables (that are unique and quirky – look at the picture below!) so you shouldn’t have to wait too long for a table.

My Favourite Brunch Spots in Liverpool

Liverpool has no shortage of places to grab a great breakfast or brunch, and that’s one of the things I love about the city’s food scene.

From speciality coffee shops and independent cafés to huge plates of brunch classics and bottomless brunches, there really is something for every kind of weekend.

Whether you’re visiting Liverpool for the weekend, looking for somewhere to eat before a day of sightseeing or simply want to find your new favourite local cafe, I hope this guide to the best brunch spots in Liverpool has given you plenty of ideas.

Bold Street, Duke Street, the Baltic Triangle, Hope Street and Lark Lane are all great areas to explore if you’re planning a full day around brunch, with plenty to do nearby once you’ve finished eating.

And, of course, if you’re looking for something a little more lively, Liverpool’s bottomless brunch scene is huge too, with everything from classic brunch dishes and cocktails to themed and entertainment-led options.
