Which also feels like the tenth time I’m saying goodbye to my adopted home.
I said a short goodbye after my first year of university, returning before the end of summer to start my second year. I then said goodbye when I left to live in London for a year.
And finally, I said what I thought would be my last goodbye in August 2019 after graduating and a few weeks before moving to New York.
Little did I know that thanks to COVID-19, I was able to return to Liverpool after my year in New York and work here remotely, avoiding the rental prices of London.
And so, it is with more sadness that I’m saying goodbye to Liverpool once again as I prepare to move to a new city tomorrow morning.
The best city on earth
You can tell me Scousers aren’t the salt of this earth, but I would have to disagree with you. Each time I write a post about leaving Liverpool, I always make note of how amazing the people of Liverpool are and how this city simply wouldn’t be the same without them.
During my recent six month stint in Liverpool, we spent most of it in lockdown.
I was only able to spend one Sunday afternoon in Lanigans, eat only one chicken stack and sit in for about five brunches before I found myself standing on Bold Street protecting my avocado toast from lurking seagulls.
Even though we saw COVID-19 trials come to the city, and Liverpool was at one point, the epicenter of the UK, living here for the past six months have been wonderful.
It’s been eerily quiet and not the city I had come to know and love, but I have been able to walk through an empty Matthew Street on a Friday night, an empty Liverpool ONE on a Saturday morning and ventured out to Allerton and Smithdown Road on a Sunday to grab some takeaway breakfast.
The past six months
COVID-19 aside, I was still able to tick off some new restaurants, eat at some old favourites and discover new areas of the city.
I lived on the docks which was something I had always wanted to do, making walking along the Pier Head a daily occurrence – my favourite area of the city.
I’ve had more takeaway coffee than I care to admit, although I have greatly missed my favourite mocha from Root which will be opening two days after we leave.
I lived in a converted warehouse which is the largest apartment I’ve ever lived in, so that’s also something.
And I even left something more permanent of myself in Liverpool, a lock down at the Albert Docks so I will always have something reminding me of my time here during 2020-2021.
The next chapter
Tomorrow, we’re moving to a new city and a new country (kinda). Somewhere I’ve never been before which isn’t something new for me as I moved to Liverpool and New York without having ever been to either city before moving there.
I won’t say where we’re moving to just yet as I’ll have a blog post at the ready to go on Monday and you can find out early over on my Instagram as I’ll document the entire journey.
Even though I’ve just started a new job, it’s completely remote which means I can work from anywhere. And since we’ve spent six months in Liverpool, we fancied a change of scenery and to sample a new country.
It’s something we’ll be doing for the next while and we’ll be moving to another new city next month. Some exciting times ahead!
