It’s that time of the week again: #GirlBossMonday!
Laura Gimbert is the founder of Laura Gimbert PR in Los Angeles, which focuses on individual services such as branding, social media, business development, media coverage, influencer reach and more. Laura stresses the importance of interning and having experience to enable entry into the PR world.
Make sure to check back here on Thursday for this week’s blog post, which will discuss the need for work experience and internships.
The reason I conduct these interviews is to inspire you, my readers, and fellow PR students to be successful in your careers and business leaders of the future. I have asked the important questions to gain an insight of how these #GirlBosses made it to where they are today, and how we can emulate their successes.
Here’s to strong women. May we know them. May we be them. May we raise them.
OC: Hi Laura! An easy question to start us off (I hope) – What is your full job title?
LG: CEO and owner of Laura Gimbert PR, a PR agency based in LA.
Can you give me a background of your career and education? How did this lead you to be in your PR position today?
I did a Bachelor’s Degree in PR at the University of Barcelona, Spain, followed by a Masters in Marketing at UCLA.
I completed tons of internships and freelance work until I opened my own business.
What do you find most rewarding about your role in PR?
The most rewarding aspect of my job is being able to help other brands and companies grow while being my own boss and doing what I love.
I love creating branding visions for others and understanding what their target demographic wants to see. It makes me be creative on a daily basis and my job is always so different and fun!
If you were to hire someone for a PR role, what skills and qualities would your ideal candidate have?
- Passion
- Great writing skills
- Creativity
- No stage fear
- Great communication
- Computer knowledge
- Up to date on trends
Having a great presence is also really important.
What advice would you give to a student like myself that wants to emulate your success and make it in the PR industry?
START DOING INTERNSHIPS ASAP! Without experience, no one will hire you! Try to do as many internships as possible during your student years and within as many fields as possible so you understand what you like doing the most.
Thank you Laura ♥
