This is my new mantra.
No zero days.
No zero days.
No zero days.
I like it so much, I might even get it tattooed. Well, I have been meaning to get a lightning bolt tattooed on me for a few years and when it came to getting it done in New York, my ankle was forever covered in mosquito bites.
But now that I’m back to UK fall season, it’s possible that it may happen sooner rather than later!
Anyway, for me the symbol of a bolt of lightening always symbolised a burst of energy. I picked this for my first (and probably only) tattoo as every time I go to look at it, I’ll remind myself to always have a burst of energy and do something worthwhile and productive every day.
And now that the saying ‘No Zero Days’ has come into my life, that’s exactly how I’m going to define the bolt of lightening on my ankle (when I grow a pair and get it tattooed).
WHAT DOES ‘NO ZERO DAYS’ MEAN?
I first read this term in one of the weekly emails that I receive from James Clear. Explaining it, he said that no matter how long your to-do list is on any given day, if you are able to tick one thing off, that’s always better than nothing.
Aka, no zero days.

Honestly, it just clicked. For someone that constantly has a to-do list as long as my arm and is always adding five new tasks for every task ticked off, it made me feel a lot better about my to-do lists that are never completed.
So even if you have 20 things on your to-do list and it’s making you anxious that you’ve only ticked off three things, you’ve accomplished three more things than yesterday.
As long as there are no zero days, you are always progressing towards your goals.
WHERE DO I FIND THE MOTIVATION
The world is not a very motivating place right now, I can see that and I feel it. I for one, am not very motivated, definitely not to the levels I once was in university.
Currently, I’m quarantining after returning from New York and you’d think with all of this free time and not being able to leave my house that I’d be super motivated and productive? Try the opposite.

I’ve completed all three seasons of Selling Sunset in five days (including working 9-5 in between) and would thoroughly recommend. I’ve only read two books since being home and have written maybe one blog post?
Not good going, is it?
DOING NOTHING LEADS TO MORE DOING NOTHING
I really think the lack of motivation is stemming from sitting in my house all day, going from my bed to the desk in my room, to the living room to watch TV and then back to bed again.
I used to find that the busier I made myself, the more I got done and the more eager I was to do more. With sitting around doing nothing all day, I’m not really doing much else.
So what I’m hoping is that once I get moved back to England (fingers crossed for next week), I’ll be able to get back into some form of routine, maybe get back to an old coffee shop that I used to hang out at a lot and feel more productive and more myself.
I haven’t put one bit of makeup on my face in two weeks now, not one bit of tan or put heat to my hair. I think I’m going to feel like a new woman coming out of quarantine and hopefully feeling a lot more of my former self.
NO ZERO DAYS
So you can probably see why No Zero Days is my new favourite mantra. I have so many things that I want to do and need to do, but I’m not getting around to any of them.
As long as I tick one thing off my to-do list each day, then I’ll feel a little bit productive and like I’ve achieved something. As long as I have No Zero Days, I’ll get along ok.
