You know the saying, ‘Loan’s in, wit’s out,’ right? If not, it basically means ‘More money than sense.’ Well it’s almost that time of year again when your bank balance increases and you suddenly feel like a millionaire – a student-style millionaire, anyway. But the wit doesn’t need to be out next week as Liverpool ONE are hosting their annual Student Event on Wednesday the 26th of September.
We’ve gotten to that awkward stage of the year when you start to question ‘Is it acceptable to wear open-toe sandals in September?’ and ‘Is it too early to start wearing jumpers and my winter coat?’ Summer’s not quite over, but Christmas still seems so far away.
With the heatwave we had this summer, I don’t know about you, but my wardrobe currently consists of nothing but day-dresses, t-shirts and skirts – not so appropriate for September. I’m counting down the days until my student loan comes in so I can get myself to Liverpool ONE and start creating my Autumn/Winter wardrobe.
However, I’m planning to wait until the Student Event next Wednesday, the 26th of this month so that I can pick up the pieces that I’ve been eyeing up for a reduced price. We’re students, so we have to be savvy with our spending.
If you are new to the city this year (welcome!) then let me explain what the event is and how you can get involved.
When and where?
If, like me, you don’t pay for Spotify Premium, then you may have already heard the ad for the Student Event quite a few times. Or maybe you’ve seen the advert on Instagram stories or on your Twitter timeline. If social media isn’t your thing, and you haven’t seen the above (how did you end up here?!) then let me lay out the details for you.
The Student Event is happening on Wednesday the 26th of September (one day only) and will be running all day from shops and restaurants open, until they close. The one thing you must have with you is a valid Student ID.
There are a lot of shops taking part as well as restaurants and I’m going to go through the offers that I’ll be looking forward to most in the next section. But, to stay updated with the latest offers on the day, you can download the Liverpool ONE app where you will also be able to book a table in participating restaurants to avoid queues. I would strongly advise on this as it’s going to be very busy!
Who’s taking part and what offers will there be?
There are so many shops taking part that I couldn’t possibly list them all, but the full list can be accessed by clicking the image above. I’m going to talk about the offers that I’m going to be taking full advantage of next week.
There will be free samples, consultations, makeovers and masterclasses in the Debenhams Beauty department with Armani, Dior, Estée Lauder, Kat Von D, Urban Decay and Yves Saint Laurent all taking part, among others. If makeup and skincare is your thing then I would recommend heading there.
Some stores are giving away goodie bags (purchases necessary) throughout the day including Miss Selfridge, Boux Avenue and Utility. Paperchase are giving away goodie bags to the first 50 students who spend £15 or more in-store between 4pm and 8pm. I’ll be waiting until then before I buy my stationery essentials.
Michael Franks is offering an amazing 50% off all hair and beauty services, including cut, colours, blow dries, brow treatments and makeup. (To book in advance, call 0151 345 6148.) I’ve already booked in to get my brows done!
The shops offering 10% off that I’ll be visiting include; Adidas, Beauty Bazaar Harvey Nichols and Urban Decay. For 15% off, I’ll be shopping at Pandora, Foot Locker and The Perfume Shop.
For 20% and above off, I’ll definitely be visiting everywhere as many of the following as my bank balance allows; Levi’s (30% off), New Look, Pull&Bear, Superdrug (to stock up on the essentials like false lashes), The Body Shop (30% off), Topshop and Urban Outfitters.
I’ve been buying most of my clothes from Topshop and New Look recently so I’ll be hitting up these stores first, especially since they’ve got a lot of their new Autumn/Winter collections in and I’ll be running there first thing before they sell out of my sizes (which is very likely to happen!)
Food for thought
With all the running around from store to store, you’re bound to work up an appetite. And we all know how tiring shopping can be, am I right? So you’re going to want to have a sit down, give your arms a rest from dragging heavy bags around all day and reward yourself for all the amazing bargains you’ve picked up. Lucky for us, lots of the Liverpool ONE restaurants have got in on the Student Event action!
I’m not ashamed to say that after two years of living in Liverpool, I’ve eaten in about 80% of the restaurants the city has to offer. Bold Street? Completed it mate.
If I was planning my day from start to finish, I would begin in Starbucks (‘Grande, skinny mocha to go please!’) where they are offering 10% off grande and venti drinks. I’d grab a burrito from Barburrito (they’re offering them for 99p!) to eat while I shop – you can’t waste valuable shopping time. Then when I was all shopped out and ready for dinner/tea (whichever you prefer to call it), I would head to Yee Rah for 30% off the total food bill and they’ll be serving 2-4-1 cocktails all day. To finish off the day (and for dessert), I’d go to Thorntons and enjoy a large tub of strawberries and chocolate for the price of a medium tub.
I must say, it’s going to be a very tough decision of where I choose to eat next Wednesday as there are so many amazing offers, I can’t decide which is best!
Bem Brasil 30% off, Bill’s 50% off, Byron 50% off, Ed’s Easy Diner buy one main get one free, GBK 25% off with app, Hilton 50% off, Las Iguanas 50% off, Nando’s 20% off, Pizza Hut 40% off, Red’s True Barbecue 40% off, The Club House 20% off, Yard & Coop 50% off and Yo Sushi 25% off.
Spoiled for choice!
