This blog post is all about my Luke Combs concert review.

Welcome to my Luke Combs concert review and my first Australian gig review!
I literally arrived off the plane on Saturday morning and by 7pm that night, I was in the Accor Stadium waiting for Luke Combs to grace the stage.
What a way to start this next chapter of my life.
We’ve had gig reviews in Liverpool, London, New York, Dublin and Belfast, and now here we are in Sydney, Australia for my Luke Combs concert review.
This blog post is all about my Luke Combs concert review in Sydney, Australia.
A Love for Country Music
If you’ve been around for a while, you’ll know that I love country music and have been to Nashville three times.
Now, this hasn’t always been the case and I specifically remember my aunt constantly listening to country radio when I was very young and hating that she wouldn’t listen to ‘normal’ music i.e. pop music.
But for the last ten years or so, I’ve been obsessed with country and folk music. There’s something about the lyrics, the voices and feelings behind country music that stands head and shoulders above other genres for me.
Last Minute Tickets
If you didn’t know, I’ve spent the past year travelling Southeast Asia. I quit my job in London, packed up my flat and fit my whole life into a backpack and set off on my travels.
So with travelling the world, came very few live music gigs and concerts. And attending live music is one of my favourite things in the world, so I have a lot of missed concerts to make up for.
I had been listening to Luke Combs when I was back in Ireland before Christmas and one of his live-recording songs came on shuffle. Out of interest, I searched if he was touring.
I almost fell off my chair when I saw that he was playing in Sydney on the very day that we were due to arrive in the city. But of course, the tickets were sold out. However, that wasn’t going to stop me.
Aware of the risk for scams, I searched on Facebook groups in Sydney and trusted a fellow Irish girl that was selling two standing tickets at face value. And they were real!

The Venue: Accor Stadium
Since I had literally been in Australia all of 10 hours when I made my way to the venue, I’m not able to compare the stadium to other venues in Australia or Sydney.
However, getting to the stadium was a breeze and public transport was also included with the ticket which was a very nice touch.
Once we got to the grounds, there were food trucks, live music stages set up around the streets and lots of concert-goers milling around and having a great time before even entering the stadium.
There was no wait to enter the venue, we scanned our tickets and were right inside, and no queue at the bar either to grab our drinks.
Support Act: Jordan Davis
One issue I have with listening to country music playlists is that I’m not very familiar with a lot of country artists. I know a lot of country songs, but if you ask me who sings them, I might draw a blank.
So when Jordan Davis took to the stage as Luke Combs’s support act, I had no idea who he was. Until he started singing.
Not only does he sing one of my favourite country songs that I’ve listened to over 1,000 times (‘Next Thing You Know’) but we must have known about eight or more of the other songs he sang.
He was incredible, and really worked the crowd. Everyone was singing along and like us, knew just about every word of every song.
I don’t think it will be long before he’s headlining stadiums of the same size very soon.
The Main Act: Luke Combs
And now for the main act himself, Luke Combs!!
I had the best night. The whole crowd were in the palm of his hand from the moment he graced the stage.
He’s an incredibly humble man, just jeans, a shirt and a trucker hat and he’s good to go. No huge stage production, just a talented band that plays alongside him.
His voice is even better than the recordings, and I could have stood in the crowd listening to him for an entire day, not just 90 minutes.
Luke Combs put on one hell of a show, and I’ll be running to get tickets the next time he’s in town, or for wherever I am in the world.
The Set List
One deeply disappointing moment was the fact that he didn’t sing ‘Doin’ This’. It’s my all-time favourite song of his and it’s on my bucket list to be able to hear this live.
So yes, I will keep going to Luke Combs concerts in the hope that he sings it. And I won’t stop until he does.
The usual hits were of course included. But he also sang a new song of his that none of us had heard before, ‘Wish Upon A Whiskey’. I think it’s going to become one of my favourite songs of his because it was slow, beautiful and full of emotion.
The mix of upbeat songs alongside the deep, slow songs we’ve come to love worked perfectly. As well as his monologues between certain songs.
He ended with crowd pleasers like ‘Ain’t No Love in Oklahoma’ and ‘Beer Never Broke My Heart’. And of course sang his iconic cover of Tracey Chapman’s ‘Fast Car’.
Coming Up Next
2025 is the year of live music for me. As I’m making up for a lot of lost time over the past 12 months.
I’ve got tickets to Dermot Kennedy’s Irish festival Misneach next month. And this will be my sixth time seeing him live! Should I stop? No. No I shouldn’t.
However, I’m very intrigued about this new festival because Irish rap act Kneecap will also be playing. After watching their movie, I’m very excited to see them live.
And then towards the end of the year I’ll be seeing Oasis! But more on that later.
My calendar is fully open between March and September. So I’m excited to see what I can fill it up with.
