This blog post is all about my Kayuma House Canggu review.

After three years away, I finally made it back to Bali in November 2024, and it felt so good to be back.
This time, my boyfriend and I were looking for somewhere affordable and comfortable to base ourselves in Canggu for a week before heading to a surf camp.
I came across Kayuma House Canggu on Booking.com, where I book all my accommodation, and it looked like the perfect budget-friendly spot.
From the pictures and reviews, it looked peaceful, convenient, and had a pool (a must in Bali!).
We ended up staying for seven nights, leaving for two days to go to a surf retreat, and then coming back for another short stay before flying to Australia.
It turned out to be such a great little find, so if you’re considering staying here, here’s my full Kayuma House Canggu review.

First Impressions of Kayuma House Canggu
When we first arrived at Kayuma House Canggu, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect.
The front of the property doesn’t look like much, but there’s a cute little coffee shop at the entrance where you check in.
As soon as you walk through to the back, the space opens up beautifully. The rooms surround a lovely outdoor pool framed by tropical greenery and tall palm trees.
It had that instantly calming Bali vibe I’d been craving.
The staff were so polite and welcoming from the start, greeting us with a cold welcome drink, which is exactly what you want after spending two hours in a taxi from the airport.
The whole place felt very safe too, with a security guard manning the back gate every night.
It’s definitely one of those places that feels more homely than hotel-like.
Our Room: Spacious, Simple & Comfortable
We booked a double room and were given one on the top floor.
It was surprisingly huge for a budget stay in Bali, with plenty of space to unpack and move around.
The decor was simple with nothing fancy, but clean, functional, and comfortable.
Outside our room was a little balcony with a table and chairs that overlooked the pool, and we loved sitting out there in the mornings with a coffee.
The room came with everything we needed: air conditioning, a mini fridge, and strong Wi-Fi (which worked consistently throughout our stay, not always a given in Bali!).
The bathroom was clean and modern with good water pressure and hot water that didn’t cut out.
Overall, Kayuma House was the perfect base for a week in Canggu, especially if you’re travelling on a budget or backpacking through Bali.

The Facilities at Kayuma House Canggu
The pool area was one of my favourite things about Kayuma House Canggu.
It’s not huge, but it’s beautifully maintained, surrounded by palm trees and tropical plants.
It wasn’t busy at all during our stay. In fact, we often had it completely to ourselves.
It’s ideal for a quick dip after a morning of exploring or working from cafés nearby.
There wasn’t an on-site restaurant or shared kitchen, but that didn’t bother us at all, as Canggu is famous for its food scene, and there are endless brunch spots and cafés just a short walk away.
Location: Walkable to La Brisa, Penny Lane & More
The location of Kayuma House Canggu is one of its biggest advantages.
It’s tucked away just enough to feel peaceful, but still walkable to so many of Canggu’s top spots.
- Penny Lane: a 6-minute walk
- The Shady Shack: a 6-minute walk
- La Brisa Beach Club: just a 5-minute walk down the street
There were always Gojek and Grab bikes waiting outside the hotel, which made getting around super convenient.
Just be aware that traffic in Canggu can get intense, so I recommend ordering transport outside of peak times if you can.
There are small convenience stores and ATMs nearby too, which was really handy.
Overall, it felt like the perfect balance between being close to the action while still having a peaceful escape to come back to.

Staff & Service at Kayuma House Canggu
The staff at Kayuma House Canggu were consistently friendly, helpful, and polite. We didn’t need much assistance during our stay, but they were always available if we did.
When we came back after our surf camp, they even remembered us and gave us a slightly better room the second time, which was such a nice touch!
The property also felt extremely safe. Between the security at night and the quiet atmosphere, I never felt uneasy walking around or coming back late.

Value for Money: Ideal for Budget Travellers
If you’re looking for a budget hotel in Canggu, Kayuma House is a great option.
While I’ve stayed in some stunning private villas on previous trips to Bali, this time we wanted something affordable and simple, and Kayuma House Canggu delivered exactly that.
It’s not luxury, but for the price (which I unfortunately can’t remember exactly), it offered excellent value.
The large room, great Wi-Fi, pool, and ideal location make it perfect for backpackers, solo travellers, or even couples who don’t need fancy extras.

My Experience Staying at Kayuma House Canggu
For me, the best parts of Kayuma House Canggu were the location, safety, and relaxing pool area.
It was the perfect base to settle into Bali life again and unwind before starting our surf camp.
After returning from Mondo Surf Retreat, it was also nice having somewhere familiar to come back to for a few more nights before leaving Bali for Australia.
Would I stay again? Possibly, but on my next trip, I actually stayed in another part of Canggu called Berawa, and I preferred it slightly more because everything was within walking distance, like cafés, restaurants, nail salons, and more.
Still, I’d happily recommend Kayuma House to anyone looking for a peaceful, affordable stay in central Canggu.
Best Brunch Spots Near Kayuma House Canggu
One of the biggest perks of staying in Canggu is being surrounded by incredible food options.

If it’s your first time visiting Canggu, here are a few quick travel tips from my experience:
