One thing I distinctly remember about our trip to Bali, Indonesia is the amazing food that we ate during our time there.
From incredible brunches to the best dim sum we’ve ever had and mind-blowing poke bowls, Bali doesn’t miss when it comes to good food.
I think it’s about time I put together a list of all the amazing places that we ate, should you be planning a trip to visit soon and need recommendations.
Canggu & Seminyak
Brunch
1. Milk & Madu
Address: Jl. Pantai Berawa No.52, gundul, Tibubeneng, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361, Indonesia
The first breakfast of our trip to Bali and our first ever experience with ‘Bali brunch’ was at Milk & Madu. This very large, open-space cafe was perfect for our first breakfast experience in Canggu.
I opted for a smoothie bowl and it was beautiful. Definitely a place to come and work during the day, it was very busy and seemed very popular and they have three locations dotted around the island of Bali.
2. Touché
Address: Jl. Pantai Pererenan No.104, Pererenan, Kec. Mengwi, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80351, Indonesia
Probably one of the most aesthetically-pleasing Instagram-friendly cafes I’ve ever seen, Touche is home to the fluffiest pancakes in Bali.
I ordered the most beautiful smoothie bowl when I visited here, and we had the pancakes to share for dessert.
You can’t come here and not order the pancakes!
3. Crate Cafe
Address: Jl. Canggu Padang Linjong No.49F, Canggu, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80351, Indonesia
Crate Cafe is a spot known for their very dramatic smoothies. A meal all in itself, you can find your five (or ten) a day in one glass.
I had the dragon fruit with chia pudding smoothie when I came here for breakfast and it almost looked too good to eat.
Crate is also a great place to come and work, but you’ll find it very busy with tourists and digital nomads.
4. Shady Shack
Address: Jl. Tanah Barak No.53, Canggu, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80351, Indonesia
The Shady Shack is a little further out of the way than other parts of Canggu, but definitely worth visiting. A little shack facing fields and small roads, it’s a bit of peace and quiet in an otherwise bustling Bali.
They do a great selection of full breakfasts and the smoothies in particular are great here too.
You can see all of these places in Canggu & Seminyak in my YouTube vlog below:
Dinner
5. Sista Dumpling
Address: Jl. Raya Semat No.7, Tibubeneng, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361, Indonesia
Of course our favourite meal of the entire trip ended up being our final meal of the trip before we headed to the airport for our flight home.
We came across Sista Dumpling on Instagram and was our best find for sure. We love our dumplings and these were some of the best we’ve ever had, and for such a cheap price too.
In Canggu, you even get to sit and look out over the rice fields at the back of the restaurant. I can’t wait to come back here!
6. Mama San
Address: Jl. Raya Kerobokan No.135, Kerobokan Kelod, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361, Indonesia
Mama San is definitely on the more expensive side, but one that was highly recommended to us before our trip because of our love for dumplings.
The place definitely didn’t disappoint and is worthy of a ‘treat yourself’ meal for a special occasion.
7. Motel Mexicola
Address: 84RJ+C58, Jl. Pantai Batu Bolong No.117X, Canggu, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361, Indonesia
A crazy dinner spot in Canggu is Motel Mexicola. The loud colours and interiors would make you think you’re somewhere in Southern America (like Mexico) and every once in a while they have the whole restaurant up dancing on the stage.
A really cool spot for some Mexican food and a place to take your friends or significant other to impress them.
8. La Favela
Address: Jalan Laksamana Oberoi No.177X, Seminyak, Kec. Kuta, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80561, Indonesia
This place is a bit crazy. It’s a nightclub, but also a restaurant. Housed over a few floors, you’ll feel like you’re in the jungle inside but there are so many hidden gems to find around the building.
One being the huge Christ the Redeemer statue on top of the building, making you feel like you’re in Rio de Janeiro, not Bali.
The food here is good, we came before the party started, but La Favela is somewhere to definitely check out for all the funky interiors.
9. Lola’s Cantina Mexicana
Address: Canggu Shortcut, Canggu, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361, Indonesia
Lola’s is a very popular spot on a Tuesday evening for Taco Tuesday’s, which means you get free tacos with every cocktail purchased.
Plus every day, they have a happy hour on cocktails from 4-7pm – a bargain on a Tuesday!
This is a great place to come with friends as it’s always a fun and upbeat atmosphere.
10. La Brisa Beach Club
Address: Jl. Pantai Batu Mejan, Canggu, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361, Indonesia
Although known as a ‘beach club’, La Brisa definitely isn’t like Finns or the other party clubs in the area.
We came here one evening to sit and watch the sunset, and ordered a poke bowl while the sun went down. And when I say I would come back here time and time again for this poke bowl, I mean it.
I can’t wait to revisit Bali and I know I’ll be heading straight to La Brisa for the poke bowl.
Ubud
Brunch
11. Suka Espresso
Address: Jl. Raya Pengosekan Ubud No.108, Ubud, Kecamatan Ubud, Kabupaten Gianyar, Bali 80571, Indonesia
Himself describes Suka Espresso as the best brunch he’s had in his whole life. I don’t know what was included in his shakshuka but it was life-changing, apparently.
He also ordered an oats-based smoothie which was a mistake as it was a whole meal in itself.
The food here was excellent, and we were also sat upstairs looking out at the bustling road below. A highly recommended spot if you’re ever in Ubud.
12. Alchemy
Address: Jl. Penestanan, Sayan, Kecamatan Ubud, Kabupaten Gianyar, Bali 80571, Indonesia
We had our final Ubud brunch here as it was at the top of our road that led to our villa (you can find out where we stayed here, and check it out in the vlog linked below).
Alchemy Yoga Center was located at the beginning of the road which was a very popular spot, and had gorgeous modern and cool interiors. Along with being a yoga studio, it also served food in its cafe and had a small shop.
The food was vegan, which was different for us and I ordered a shakshuka which had fake eggs – a first for me!
13. Kafe Ubud
Address: Jl. Hanoman No.44B, Ubud, Kecamatan Ubud, Kabupaten Gianyar, Bali 80571, Indonesia
We didn’t overly rate the food here, but I had to add it to the list because we probably had the best iced caramel lattes of the trip from here.
There’s also a pretty upstairs loft at Kafe Ubud where you can sit and enjoy your meal while looking out onto Bali traffic down below.
Definitely one to visit for the iced coffees.
You can see all of these places in Ubud in my YouTube vlog below:
Dinner
14. Murni’s Warung
Address: F7V3+XV, Jl. Raya Ubud, Ubud, Kecamatan Ubud, Kabupaten Gianyar, Bali 80571, Indonesia
You’ll definitely want to bring your mosquito spray with you for this one. Hidden in the Bali jungle, you’ll find Murni’s Warung.
A traditional Balinese restaurant, you’ll be trying all of the dishes that Indonesia has to offer here. We really enjoyed our meal here, sat in the darkness of the trees and wildlife.
A great one for trying the local food!
15. Nomad Restaurant
Address: Jl. Raya Ubud No.35, Ubud, Kecamatan Ubud, Kabupaten Gianyar, Bali 80571, Indonesia
We stopped by Nomad restaurant while out and about in Ubud main centre, nestled among the shops and other stores around.
The food was excellent and I had the Nasi Goreng (Bali’s main dish) which cost £2.32, so proved to be a cheap evening meal. They also serve burgers, pizzas alongside traditional dishes and weekly specials.
Somewhere I’d definitely recommend to visit in Ubud!
