What Makes a Great Coffee Shop for Remote Work?

Thereโ€™s an art to choosing a good spot for working remotely. Aesthetics matter, of course (we all want that warm wooden-table glow for our laptop setup), but itโ€™s the practical details that make a coffee shop truly laptop-friendly.

Strong, reliable Wi-Fi is a must. So is comfortable seating and enough space to spread out your laptop and coffee without feeling rushed.

Outlets near tables are gold dust, especially when youโ€™re there for a few hours. You want a spot with enough background noise to feel lively but not so much that youโ€™re fighting to hear yourself think.

Thankfully, Brooklynโ€™s coffee shops are built for this.

Many double as creative community spaces, blending speciality coffee with a relaxed, freelancer-friendly atmosphere.

Whether you prefer the minimalist style of a Scandinavian-inspired coffee shop in Williamsburg or the plant-filled corners of a hipster Bushwick espresso bar, youโ€™ll find the best coffee shops to work from in Brooklyn for you, and your MacBook.

After living in New York for a year, and then more recently spending a month here as a digital nomad in Williamsburg, I’ve fully explored the borough to find the best coffee shops to work from in Brooklyn.

Coffee Shops to Work From in Brooklyn: Williamsburg

Williamsburg is the creative heart of Brooklyn. Full of art studios, boutique shops, and some of the most stylish coffee shops in New York.

Whether youโ€™re a freelancer, a student, or just escaping your apartment for the day, this neighbourhood has the perfect balance of energy and calm for remote work.

These are the best coffee shops to work from in Brooklyn (Williamsburg), each with great coffee, reliable Wi-Fi, and a work-friendly vibe.

1. Brooklyn Roasting Company

Address: 543 Metropolitan Avenue, Brooklyn

If you need strong coffee and strong Wi-Fi, Brooklyn Roasting Company delivers both.

Spacious, bright, and buzzing with creative energy, itโ€™s one of those cafรฉs where everyone seems to be working on something interesting.

Youโ€™ll spot plenty of laptops open across the long communal tables, and no one minds if you linger.

2. Think Coffee

Address: 10 Devoe Street, Brooklyn

Think Coffee is one of those classic New York coffee spots that manages to strike the right balance between being casual and functional.

Itโ€™s definitely more of a grab-a-coffee-and-go place, but thereโ€™s a decent number of tables if you want to set up for a couple of hours.

Itโ€™s bright, airy, and has that unmistakable Williamsburg energy of creatives chatting, locals reading, and the gentle hum of espresso machines in the background.

Itโ€™s not huge, so youโ€™ll want to get there early to claim a table, but if you do, itโ€™s a great little base for catching up on emails or working through a to-do list over a strong flat white.

3. The Hoxton Hotel

Address: 97 Wythe Avenue, Brooklyn

I love working from a hotel lobby, and The Hoxton Hotel is one of the best. It has that effortless mix of design, buzz, and comfort that makes you actually want to open your laptop.

Sure, the chairs arenโ€™t exactly built for sitting at all day (itโ€™s more about style than practicality here) but thereโ€™s something about the energy of a hotel lobby thatโ€™s hard to beat.

The Wi-Fi is strong, the coffee and pastries are great, and there are plenty of tables scattered around. If you like a lively background hum while you work, this is the perfect spot.

4. Devociรณn

Address: 69 Grand Street, Brooklyn

Devociรณn is one of the most popular coffee shops in Williamsburg, and for good reason.

The coffee is exceptional, the light is beautiful, and the space itself is a design dream with high ceilings, plants everywhere, and a warm golden glow that makes you want to stay for hours.

But you definitely wonโ€™t be the only one with the idea to work from here, so expect a bit of competition for tables. The Wi-Fi is strong, but outlets are limited.

Most of the seating is in the middle of the room, meaning youโ€™ll need a bit of luck (or a golden ticket) to snag one of the few tables with a power socket.

Come with your laptop fully charged, order a cold brew, and soak up the lively energy that makes Devociรณn such a beloved Brooklyn staple.

5. Nyla Cafรฉ

Address: 362 Hewes Street, Brooklyn

I love this spot. Itโ€™s so homely and snug, and the kind of cafรฉ that instantly makes you want to slow down and stay a while.

Itโ€™s not the biggest place in the world, but thatโ€™s part of its charm. Nyla Cafe feels like a proper local hangout where everyone seems to know each other.

Grab a mug of coffee, claim the little corner table, and settle in for a productive couple of hours.

Itโ€™s not an all-day working spot, but if your laptopโ€™s fully charged and youโ€™re looking for somewhere to do some casual work on a cold winterโ€™s day in New York, I canโ€™t think of a better place.

6. Birdee

Address: 316 Kent Avenue, Brooklyn

Birdee is where great design meets serious coffee. The aesthetic is modern, the seating is comfortable, and the Wi-Fi is fast.

Itโ€™s one of the most photogenic coffee shops in Williamsburg with warm light and soft neutral tones, but itโ€™s not just about the looks.

Their pour-overs and pastries are fantastic, and thereโ€™s enough space to spread out without feeling rushed. Itโ€™s a strong all-day work spot for freelancers, students and travellers.

Coffee Shops to Work From in Brooklyn: Greenpoint

Greenpoint is one of my favourite areas in Brooklyn to work from. Itโ€™s calmer than Williamsburg but still full of personality.

Think tree-lined streets, converted warehouses, and plenty of cosy corners to spend the day with your laptop.

The neighbourhood has that creative Brooklyn energy but without the rush, making it ideal for remote work.

Here are the best coffee shops to work from in Brooklyn (Greenpoint), whether youโ€™re looking for great Wi-Fi, a quiet table, or just somewhere with seriously good coffee.

7. Sweetleaf Coffee Roasters

Address: 159 Freeman Street, Brooklyn

Sweetleaf Coffee Roasters is one of my favourite spots in Greenpoint. Itโ€™s got everything you could want in a cafรฉ to work from.

The coffee is consistently great, the Wi-Fi is reliable, and thereโ€™s loads of room to spread out, which makes it ideal if youโ€™re planning to stay for a few hours.

The vibe is calm and creative, with a mix of locals, freelancers, and remote workers all tucked into their corners with laptops.

It strikes that perfect balance between lively and laid-back, and somewhere you can get a lot done but still feel part of the neighbourhood.

8. Odd Fox Coffee

Address: 984 Manhattan Avenue, Brooklyn

Odd Fox Coffee is the kind of cafรฉ that instantly feels like your new favourite. Itโ€™s bright, small enough to feel cosy, and always filled with locals quietly working away.

The Wi-Fi is fast, and there are a few outlets dotted around, making it a reliable choice if you need to get things done.

Itโ€™s one of those Brooklyn laptop-friendly cafรฉs where you can easily spend half a day without realising how much time has passed.

9. Flower Cat

Address: 162 Noble Street, Brooklyn

Flower Cat is one of the cutest little cafรฉs in Greenpoint, with amazing aesthetics and a relaxed, creative vibe.

Think vintage furniture, soft lighting, and charming cat-themed dรฉcor that makes it feel more like a cosy living room than a coffee shop.

Itโ€™s a great place to catch up on emails or do some light work while enjoying your coffee, but itโ€™s not really a spot for locking in for hours. The space is small and designed more for calm productivity than long sessions.

Perfect for a slow morning or an afternoon break somewhere that feels distinctly, delightfully Brooklyn.

10. Variety Coffee Roasters

Address: 142 Driggs Avenue, Brooklyn

Variety Coffee Roasters has a few Brooklyn locations, but the Greenpoint cafรฉ might be the best for remote work.

Thereโ€™s plenty of space, strong Wi-Fi, and enough plugs to keep you going through the afternoon.

Itโ€™s got that perfect balance of buzz and calm. Youโ€™ll see people reading, working, and chatting quietly, all with the smell of freshly roasted beans in the air.

A dependable go-to for long laptop days.

Coffee Shops to Work From in Brooklyn: Bushwick

If Williamsburg is Brooklynโ€™s polished creative hub, Bushwick is its raw, artistic soul.

Think colourful murals, industrial warehouses turned into cafรฉs, and a community full of freelancers, artists, and remote workers.

The energy here is a little grittier, a little cooler, and perfect if you want a working day that feels anything but corporate.

Here are the best coffee shops to work from in Brooklyn (Bushwick) that are all great for laptops, Wi-Fi, and a full day of caffeinated productivity.

11. Lazy Suzy Cafรฉ & Shop

Address: 703 Hart Street, Brooklyn

Lazy Suzy is a local favourite for a reason. Itโ€™s bright, airy, and filled with plants and regulars who treat it as their second home office.

Thereโ€™s plenty of seating, strong Wi-Fi, and a relaxed energy that makes it easy to lose track of time while you work.

Order a flat white or their excellent breakfast sandwich, settle in by the window, and youโ€™ll see why itโ€™s one of the most popular Brooklyn laptop-friendly cafรฉs in the area.

12. Sunrise/Sunset

Address: 351 Evergreen Avenue, Brooklyn

Sunrise/Sunset is one of Bushwickโ€™s trendiest local cafรฉs, known for its great coffee, relaxed vibe, and neighbourhood charm.

Itโ€™s the kind of place where you can spend a few hours working during the week while soaking in that creative Bushwick energy.

Just be aware that there are some limits on Wi-Fi use, and thereโ€™s a no-laptops-on-weekends policy, so itโ€™s best for weekday work sessions rather than all-day weekend study marathons.

Still, itโ€™s a lovely spot to enjoy a coffee, people-watch, and get some light work done when the Wi-Fiโ€™s on.

13. Father Knows Best

Address: 611A Wilson Avenue, Brooklyn

Father Knows Best is one of Bushwickโ€™s most loved neighbourhood cafรฉs: part coffee shop, part bar, and always full of character.

Itโ€™s a great place to grab a coffee, get some work done, and soak up the creative energy that makes this part of Brooklyn so special.

The space isnโ€™t huge, though, so expect to be sharing tables during busy hours. This isnโ€™t the place to spread out with notebooks, chargers, and multiple devices.

But if you travel light and donโ€™t mind a bit of company, itโ€™s an excellent spot to spend a productive morning or afternoon in a true Brooklyn local favourite.

14. Sey Coffee

Address: 18 Grattan Street, Brooklyn

Technically just over the Bushwick border, Sey Coffee is one of the best-known cafรฉs in this part of Brooklyn, and for good reason.

The coffee is exceptional, the space is bright and minimalist, and itโ€™s one of the few places that manages to strike the perfect balance between being laptop-friendly and keeping that laid-back cafรฉ atmosphere.

They even have designated work areas, which I love. I adore working from coffee shops, but I completely understand how frustrating it can be when you just want to grab a coffee and catch up with a friend but every tableโ€™s taken by people typing away.

Seyโ€™s setup solves that perfectly. Thereโ€™s also a two-hour laptop limit, which keeps things fair and the vibe relaxed.

If youโ€™re after great coffee, natural light, and a place that welcomes remote workers without losing its neighbourhood charm, this is it.

Coffee Shops to Work From in Brooklyn: Park Slope & Prospect Heights

If Bushwick is Brooklynโ€™s creative warehouse district, Park Slope and Prospect Heights are where you go to slow down and focus.

Tree-lined streets, brownstones, and calm neighbourhood cafรฉs make these two areas perfect for remote work days.

You wonโ€™t find the hipster chaos of Williamsburg here, just solid coffee, friendly baristas, and that gentle hum of productivity that makes you feel instantly grounded.

Whether youโ€™re planning a quiet writing day, catching up on admin, or tackling a few Zoom meetings, here are the best coffee shops to work from in Brooklyn (Park Slope and Prospect Heights).

15. Variety Coffee

Address: 312 7th Avenue, Brooklyn

Variety Coffee is a Park Slope favourite and one of those places that just feels like it was made for working from. Itโ€™s bright, stylish, and always buzzing with a mix of locals, students, and freelancers.

From the outside it looks quite small, but itโ€™s actually much bigger than youโ€™d expect once you step inside, with plenty of seating scattered throughout.

The coffee is great, the Wi-Fi is strong, and thereโ€™s just enough background noise to keep you focused.

Itโ€™s the kind of cafรฉ you can easily spend a few hours in without realising where the timeโ€™s gone.

16. Poetica Coffee

Address: 240 7th Avenue, Brooklyn

Poetica Coffee is a small espresso bar with big personality. Itโ€™s the kind of place that feels instantly welcoming, with friendly baristas, great coffee, and a loyal local following.

While itโ€™s primarily a grab-and-go spot, there are a few tables inside if you want to sit down and work for a bit.

Itโ€™s not the kind of cafรฉ youโ€™d spend an entire day in, but itโ€™s perfect for an hour or two of focused work, especially if you prefer somewhere quieter and more low-key than the bigger laptop-heavy spots.

17. Hungry Ghost

Address: 253 Flatbush Avenue, Brooklyn

Hungry Ghost is a small chain thatโ€™s earned a loyal Brooklyn following.

This branch, sitting right between Park Slope and Prospect Heights, has become a local work hub. Expect fast Wi-Fi, plenty of seating, and a crowd thatโ€™s mostly laptop-open and deep in concentration.

Their cold brew is excellent, and the floor-to-ceiling windows make it a bright, energising place to spend the day.

18. Casita of Brooklyn

Address: 318 11th Street, Brooklyn

Casita of Brooklyn is one of those neighbourhood cafรฉs that instantly makes you feel at home. Itโ€™s small but cosy, with great coffee and a simple breakfast menu that keeps locals coming back.

The vibe is calm, which is perfect if you need to get through emails or edit photos without distraction.

There are a few outlets dotted around for charging your devices, which is always a plus in smaller cafรฉs like this. Itโ€™s not huge, so bring your headphones, grab a corner seat, and settle in early before the morning rush.

19. Sit & Wonder Cafe

Address: 688 Washington Avenue, Brooklyn

Sit & Wonder is one of those cafรฉs that perfectly captures the laid-back charm of Prospect Heights.

Inside, itโ€™s calm and cosy with just enough space to work comfortably, but the real gem here is the outdoor area at the back: a hidden garden-style space thatโ€™s incredibly rare to find in the city.

Thereโ€™s plenty of shade, so you can choose between working in the sun or tucked under the trees with your laptop and a flat white.

Itโ€™s relaxed, peaceful, and a great spot to get a few hours of work done while still enjoying that fresh-air feeling.

Downtown Brooklyn and neighbouring Fort Greene are perfect if you like your coffee shops with a bit of atmosphere.
