If you’re wondering what to do on Christmas Day in New York, you’ve come to the right place.
I can’t describe it, but believe me, Christmas in New York is the most magical time to visit. Nowhere in the world comes close when it comes to Christmas.
You’ll feel like you’ve just stepped onto the set of Home Alone 2 (without the booby traps) or Elf when walking through the streets of New York in December.
Since I’ve been there (and lived there) many times during the holiday period, I thought I’d put a list together of how to spend Christmas Day in New York City.

11 Ways to Spend Christmas Day in New York
1. Visit the Rockefeller Center
A visit to the Rockefeller Center during the holiday season is a quintessential New York City experience.
The annual lighting of the enormous Christmas tree is a huge spectacle that draws crowds from around the world. And in my humble opinion, it’s the best Christmas tree in New York. If not the world!
Skating on the ice rink beneath the beautifully illuminated tree is an iconic activity. And one not to be missed!
If you’re wondering what is open on Christmas Day in New York, you can always bet on the Rockefeller ice rink and Christmas tree. There’s nothing that makes me feel more Christmassy than seeing this on the 25th of December.
Additionally, you may remember the Rockefeller tree from one of the best Christmas in New York movies – Home Alone 2!

3. Eat Christmas Dinner at the Churchill on Christmas Day in NYC
Many people wonder where to eat on Christmas Day in New York and are afraid that a lot of places will be closed.
We’ve now spent a few Christmas Days in the city and have found some great spots to have Christmas Day dinner in NYC.
Our top choice is always The Churchill Tavern on East 28th Street, Manhattan. It’s an English-style pub that’s always our go-to for a Sunday roast in the city.
So if they do Sunday roast well, you can bet they do a great Christmas Day dinner as well.
This is where we’re choosing to dine this year on Christmas Day. Previous years, we’ve dined at GMT in the East Village and O’Donoghue’s in Midtown.
But The Churchill is our favourite!
