#GirlBossMonday with Emma Kelly

It’s that time of the week again: #GirlBossMonday!

Emma Kelly is the founder and Managing Director of Elevate PR, Dublin; a creative PR and social media agency with a strong digital focus. The PR agency specialises in lifestyle, consumer, retail, luxury and digital PR.

Just by looking at Elevate’s website and social media pages, I can tell that this is the kind of agency that I hope to work for one day – current, colourful and artistic.

The reason I conduct these interviews is to inspire you, my readers, and fellow PR students to be successful in your careers and business leaders of the future. I have asked the important questions to gain an insight of how these #GirlBosses made it to where they are today, and how we can emulate their successes.

Here’s to strong women. May we know them. May we be them. May we raise them.

Girl Boss Monday

OC: Hi Emma! An easy question to start us off (I hope) – What is your full job title?

EK: Managing Director of Elevate PR, Dublin, Ireland.

Can you give me a background of your career and education? How did this lead you to be in your PR position today?

I studied Economics and Politics in Trinity College Dublin, along with a Masters in Multimedia Systems (really web 1.0). I was then a Graduate Trainee at IDA Ireland, initially in the Amsterdam office and then back in the Electronics Division in Dublin as a marketing executive.

I then went out as a freelance events and PR person for a couple of years and set up Elevate in 2001.

What do you find most rewarding and challenging about your role in PR?

The variety is great, no two days are ever the same. I also love the new business side and strategy.

It can be challenging to keep up with changes in technology, but nobody has all the answers.

If you were to hire someone for a PR role, what skills and qualities would your ideal candidate have?

Curiosity, tenacity, enthusiasm, a can-do attitude and a sense of fun and adventure.

What advice would you give to a student like myself that wants to emulate your success and make it in the PR industry?

Read widely – great for knowledge and grammar!

Thank you Emma  ♥
