Now that I’ve posted about quitting my job and leaving London, I think it’s time to dive into what I’m doing next. And what this new era of Orlagh Claire looks like.
I first started this blog back when it was ‘The Fake Blonde Blog‘ in 2016, around eight years ago. I was 19 at the time and as you can guess, I’ve definitely changed since then.
The blog has had a mix of beauty posts, career posts, interviews and public relations/influencer-marketing related posts. But it’s never really found its home in what to specialise in.
If anything, you could expect a little bit of everything on here which was what I enjoyed and most likely why I stuck with it for so long.
But now, in 2024 as I turn 27, I think I’ve finally found my niche and what excites me most every single day to write or create content about.
My travel era
I’m fully in my travel era now, since I’ve quit my job and am currently backpacking around the world. Even typing that sentence is quite terrifying and has me wondering what on earth I’m doing.
But everything’s scary when you’re first starting out, right?
I hopped (leapt) off of the career ladder and fell head-first into travelling. I had a quarter life crisis (menty B) a few months ago and could no longer face signing onto my laptop at 9am, sending silly emails until 5pm and repeating this process every five days of the week for the rest of my life.
The working life just isn’t for me I guess (I say as I will most definitely have to face reality in a few months and go back to work).
So here I am, currently writing this blog post from a coffee shop in Bucharest, Romania. Quite mental really, isn’t it?
The travel content creator
So this new era of Orlagh Claire is going to be heavily travel-focused. If you’re here for motivational career blog posts, then I’m afraid you missed that era of me.
What you can now look forward to is blog posts about hotel stays, what I get up to in different parts of the world and I’ll probably write a few blog posts trying to convince you, dear reader, that you should also quit your job and go see the world.
I’ll be vlogging my whole experience over on TikTok (like the Gen Z that I am) and on Instagram too, and probably YouTube as well, because – why not?
Expect to see the ups and downs, the highs and lows, the insta vs reality and the everyday backpacker life as we try to make our budget stretch as far and for as long as possible.
#GirlBoss? I don’t know her
We all remember my #GirlBoss era. I was obsessed with Sophia Amoruso’s book when it came out and hailed it as my Bible.
I wanted the corner office, the suit with the heels, working in the big city and being the big PR boss that I envisioned myself as. A few years later and that couldn’t be further from what I want.
Why should my life revolve around work? Around making money for ‘the man’? About making people spend money on things they don’t need?
But seeing the world and showing that to people, encouraging them to do the same? That I can get behind. Seeing different ways of life, different cultures and having life experiences? That’s priceless.
My corner office now looks like working from a coffee shop, the suit and heels now looks like a €2 dress and flip flops, and the big city is now an island in the middle of Asia.
I’m going through changes
I’ve changed a lot in a short space of time, but so have my experiences.
Five years ago, I was graduating from university in London, four years ago I was living in New York, three years ago I was working remotely around the UK, navigating lockdowns and Covid, and two years ago I moved to London and started working in my dream PR job again.
Things change and people change. There’s nothing to say that I won’t change in another few years and want all of those #GirlBoss things again. I might want to go back into the corporate world and be wearing a killer suit.
But then, I might have found a new thing to dedicate my life to and a new way to live. Time can only tell, but I’ve started a new era of Orlagh Claire, the travel content creator and I’m extremely happy to be her.
