This blog post is all about my review of staying at Sujeewani Villa in Negombo, Sri Lanka.

Welcome to the Checking In series on Orlagh Claire where I review my stay in hotels, hostels and AirBnBs around the world.
Next in this series of reviews is Sujeewani Villa, Negombo, which was our first night’s stay when we arrived in Sri Lanka for our month-long travels around the beautiful island.
You can see a video tour of this villa in my Negombo YouTube vlog below. You’ll also find everywhere we ate during our two visits to Negombo, and what things there are to do in this fishing village of Sri Lanka.

Top tip: for mobile data around Sri Lanka, we used the Airalo eSim which was super handy and easily installed onto our phones as soon as we landed in Colombo Airport!

Where to Stay in Negombo: Location of Sujeewani Villa
When we first arrived in Sri Lanka, we stayed in Colombo, the capital city.
However, the city of Negombo is actually a lot closer to the airport and a much more relaxed location to stay when you first enter the country.
After travelling to Romania and Dubai, and now entering the third country of our backpacking trip, we decided to spend a few days relaxing by the beach before commencing our route around Sri Lanka.
Sujeewani Villa was in the perfect location, a ten minute walk from the beach and three minute walk from the main street of shops, restaurants and cafes.
It was located down a little side street which meant it was away from any traffic or noise from the bars and restaurants on the main road.
Where to Stay in Negombo: Cost to Stay at Sujeewani Villa
This was probably the best part.
Our 1-bedroom villa came with a kitchen and living area. Not to mention the bedroom and bathroom were both huge! And the swimming pool was right outside our door. The villa cost us a total of £20 per night.
That’s £10 each per night for a large private villa with great WiFi!
The value for money was excellent and we were able to save so much by staying here. We simply walked to the cafes and restaurants nearby. If we had wanted to cook, there was a convenience store a few minutes away.
Where to Stay in Negombo: The Villa Experience
As I mentioned above, our villa was huge. We stayed here for four nights at the beginning of our trip to Sri Lanka. Then for another four nights at the end of our trip before leaving for Malaysia.
We spent eight nights here in total, which should hopefully let you know how much we loved it.
The workers were especially friendly. They would stop to give you a lift if they saw you walking around the area.
Where to Stay in Negombo: Overall Review of Sujeewani Villa, Negombo
Sujeewani Villa became our little home-from-home while we were in Sri Lanka.
While travelling around, I found myself looking forward to being back in Negombo, in our little villa oasis.
