Following on from my list of best brunches in London, I thought I’d start sampling the breakfasts and brunch spots in Liverpool.
As it is my favourite meal of the day and you can’t go too far wrong with poached eggs and avocado, it was time to put Liverpool to the test.

The best breakfast and brunch spots in Liverpool
1. LEAF ON BOLD STREET
As the most popular spot on Bold Street in the mornings, you’ll usually be met with a queue of people lining down the street to get their breakfast. And of course, it’s popular for good reason.
We’ve dined here more times than we care to admit and was the first place that introduced me to avocado all those years ago. We love visiting time and time again and also love that it’s been able to grow to extra locations further outside Liverpool City Center due to its popularity.
2. ROOT COFFEE, HANOVER STREET
This independent coffee shop is the perfect backdrop to get some work done and serves the best mochas. It’s never too over-crowded or noisy and has plug sockets dotted around the café for you to charge your laptop.
Their breakfast menu is compact but delicious, and the Norway is always our go-to! Probably my favourite of the many brunch spots in Liverpool.
3. THE BRUNCH CLUB, DUKE STREET
The best thing about The Brunch Club is that it serves breakfast and brunch until 5pm everyday, so no need to rush before missing the 12pm curfew for avocado on toast.
Located on Duke Street, this spot is very popular for its bottomless brunches so be sure to book and order a tree of pornstar martinis!
4. CAFE LUCAYA, WATER STREET
One of the handiest brunch spots for us in the city as it’s only a ten minute walk from our flat. Since we now work from home, this means we can nip over to Cafe Lucaya for a mid-week brunch when we get the urge.
A lovely, quiet spot right across from Liverpool’s Liver Building, it serves a generous amount of grub for breakfast and amazing coffees too!
5. 109 ALLERTON ROAD
A little outside of the city, Allerton Road is quickly becoming one of the most popular spots for new restaurants and boutiques. We ventured out one weekend to try breakfast at 109 Allerton Road after seeing so many tasty-looking pics on Instagram.
109 did not disappoint and it’s top of our list to go back to in the New Year.
6. QUEEN’S, QUEENS AVENUE
Hidden away in Liverpool’s very own Diagon Alley, is Queen’s Liverpool, in Queen’s Avenue. You would miss this little street hidden behind Castle Street as I have for the past four years of living in the city.
Queen’s has a very french feel to it with dark wooden interiors and a very intimate atmosphere. I’m just angry I hadn’t found this place sooner as I think it would have been a regular spot with it’s tasty menu.
7. THE LITTLE SHOE, BOLD STREET
Previously known as East Avenue Bakehouse, this little cafe on Bold Street served the best avocado toast in the whole of Liverpool. Now known as The Little Shoe, it really is one of the best kept secrets when it comes to brunch spots in Liverpool.
Not to worry, as their breakfast menu is still up there with the best and everything is cooked fresh in their kitchen. Their bread is to die for and is the freshest we’ve had since we started going out for breakfast.
8. THE WATERING CAN, GREENBANK
Out near Penny Lane in a little area known as Green Bank sits The Watering Can. A very festive and amazingly decorated little spot. It’s a very popular place on the weekends for their famous breakfasts and Sunday roasts.
After a large fry, take a walk around the local area of Penny Lane and through Sefton Park to take in some of the lovely green areas that Liverpool has to offer. A perfect Sunday morning outing.
9. MOOSE COFFEE, DALE STREET
Moose is a famous brunch staple in Liverpool. Now operating in a second location on Hope Street, Moose serves up the biggest stack of pancakes you’ll find. It’s famous for its American and Canadian-styled breakfast.
This is somewhere you’ll want to book for breakfast. There’s always a queue and a long waiting list to get in on a weekend morning.
10. POTTS COFFEE, SLATER STREET
A new addition to brunch spots in Liverpool. Potts Coffee sits on Slater Street and around the corner from Concert Square. This vegan cafe only boasts around 10 tables at most. But has people lining the street on the weekend to get in.
It’s definitely worth the wait! We shared some of these amazing pancakes after some avo on toast and a breakfast burrito – the perfect breakfast dessert!
Wow, these brunch spots all look unreal! I haven’t been to Liverpool in ages thanks to Covid, but as my husband’s family live there I’ll be adding these spots to my ‘to visit’ list for next time I go!

Amazing! There are so many great places here in Liverpool for brunch – I have so many on my list that I’m afraid I won’t get to try before moving on in April. Hopefully we can go back to eating at our favourite restaurants soon! 🙁
