I’m ready for a new adventure. If you know me or have been following my blog for a few years, you’ll know that I get bored quite easily.
I was bored two years into Liverpool, so moved to London. Then after a year in London I returned to Liverpool for my final year of university (after realising how much I missed it).
After Liverpool, it was on to New York. After New York it was back to Liverpool for six months. Once those six months were up, it was a four month jaunt around the UK spending a month at a time in Manchester, Edinburgh, Cardiff and back to Manchester.
Following those four months on the road, London was calling and that’s where I’ve been ever since for the past two and a half years.
In my comfort zone
But now I’m ready for a change. These 2.5 years have been the longest I’ve stayed in one place since leaving home when I was 18 years old. And I’m ready for something new.
I talk about the comfort zone a lot and how this is always something that we should be on the edge of, leaning out of and testing ourselves. However, sometimes this is easier said than done.
The thought of leaving the comfort zone is always a lot easier than when it actually comes to leaving it.
Once the decision has been made to step into new territory, the feeling of fear often comes with it. Including the sudden feeling of ‘What have I done?! I’m not ready or prepared for this!’
Then we come to think about how nice it actually is in our comfort zone. It’s easy, safe and as it says on the tin, comfortable. So why would I leave?
London, it’s you, not me
Like I said above, I’ve been in London for over two years now. The time has flown by and we’ve stayed in the same apartment and same area of London for the entire time. I’ve been in three jobs during my time in London, but have been in my current job for coming up to two years this April.
As much as I love and adore my job, I’m not shy in telling the world how much I don’t like London. If you listen to my podcast, then you’ll be well versed in how I can’t bring myself to love London, no matter how much I try.
My job is great, I have a great group of friends here, I have a great job and I’m on a good salary. But it’s not me, it’s most definitely London.
I can link you to many blog posts and podcasts on this subject and the many reasons why myself and London just aren’t a good fit for each other, so I won’t bore you on the subject any longer.
Let’s just say the main elements are: the people, the lifestyle, the vibe, but most of all, the people.
I’m ready for a new adventure
I’m ready for something new. It’s been over two years now and I’m coasting. I’m enjoying where I am and what I’m doing but there’s nothing new about it.
I need some excitement back in my life and something new to look forward to. Whether that’s a new role, a new location, a new country or a new way of life.
Something has to change in 2024 and a new adventure is definitely what’s needed.
2024: the year of new
I recapped my 2023 goals and you’ll more than likely know that my main goal in life is to move back to New York.
However, we’ve been back in the UK since 2020 and we’re nowhere closer to that goal than we were in 2020. With himself’s company laying people off left, right and centre and my role not being transfer-friendly since all of my press and agent contacts are in the UK, we’re kind of at a standstill.
So what do we do? Do we continue to wait it out in London in the hopes that something changes? Or do we take life into our own hands and decide our own fate?
Where will the adventure take me?
So where will 2024 take me if an adventure is on the cards? More importantly, where do I want it to take me?
Is a new job on the horizon, is a new city on the horizon or is a new way of life on the cards? I may have something up my sleeve and plans in place, but you’ll have to wait a few weeks before I can divulge further.
Let’s just say 2024 is going to see me leave my comfort zone and be filled with a whole lot of adventure to make up for the plain sailing of the last few years.
