This blog post is all about Christmas in New York.
Certain places become synonymous with holidays for me. When I think of Halloween, I think of the spooky charm of Salem.
When July 4th rolls around, my mind goes straight to the festive vibes of the Hamptons.
And when it’s Christmas? There’s no place I’d rather be than New York City.
This blog post is all about spending Christmas in New York.
Why it’s Christmas in New York or Nowhere
I love spending Christmas in New York and always try to go whenever I can. In fact, right this second I’m sat in New York City on Christmas Day.
There’s something magical about the city during the holidays that’s unlike anywhere else in the world. It feels like stepping into a Christmas movie, with twinkling lights, festive decorations, and an undeniable sense of joy in the air.
No matter how many times I’ve experienced it, Christmas in New York never loses its charm.
From iconic traditions to hidden seasonal gems, here’s why I believe New York City is the ultimate Christmas destination—and why it’s a place everyone should experience during the holidays at least once.
You can see what I usually get up to in New York at Christmas in my YouTube vlog below:
Reasons Christmas in New York is the Best
Below are all the reasons I think Christmas in New York is better than Christmas anywhere else in the entire world.
1. The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree
Nothing screams “Christmas in New York” quite like the Rockefeller Christmas Tree. Standing tall and illuminated with thousands of sparkling lights, this iconic tree is the heart of the city’s holiday celebrations.
Surrounded by festive decorations, the nearby ice skating rink, and plenty of happy visitors snapping photos, it’s impossible not to feel the holiday spirit. Whether you visit during the day or at night, the Rockefeller tree is pure magic.

2. The Holiday Windows on Fifth Avenue
The department stores of Fifth Avenue take Christmas decorations to the next level with their extravagant holiday window displays. From Saks Fifth Avenue’s light show to Bergdorf Goodman’s imaginative designs, the windows are a masterpiece of art and creativity.
Even if you’re not into shopping, strolling along Fifth Avenue feels like a festive gallery walk. It’s a tradition I never miss when I’m in New York during the holidays.

3. Ice Skating in Iconic Locations
Ice skating in New York is a quintessential holiday activity, and there’s no shortage of amazing rinks to choose from. Whether it’s under the glow of the Rockefeller tree, the scenic rink in Central Park, or the lively Bryant Park Winter Village, each offers a unique Christmas experience.
Even if you don’t skate, watching others glide (or stumble like me) across the ice with holiday music playing in the background is just as enjoyable.
4. The Festive Markets
New York’s holiday markets are an absolute treat for anyone who loves unique gifts, warm drinks, and festive vibes.
Bryant Park Winter Village is my favourite, with its charming stalls, sparkling lights, and free ice skating rink.
Other great markets include the Union Square Holiday Market and Columbus Circle Holiday Market, where you can browse everything from handmade crafts to gourmet snacks. Even if you’re not planning to shop, the festive atmosphere makes these markets worth visiting.
